Flip-Flopping
A pejorative term for evolving political positions and policies. In reality this is not gaslighting, cognitive dissonance, or doublethink, if the politician sincerely insists that their core progressive values have not changed. Public policy should be unburdened by deadlines tethered to time as the requirements of the current moment make it the right time, and as such require no timely explanations. As a Big Brother hopeful stated one time recently, "I will keep my word"... for now.
