Ministry of Truth Daily Update - 31 Dec 2024 - Black Vigilantes

Black Vigilantes

BLM recently called for street justice to fight unacceptable jury verdicts, which have let down the cause of social justice.  They screamed, "People want to jump up and choke us and kill us for being loud? How about we do the same when they attempt to oppress us?"  These social justice warriors claim that white supremacists got another victory by a jury failing to convict the white subway vigilante.  By targeting oppressors, the streets will become safer for minorities.

Ministry of Truth Just Kidding Update - 27 Dec 2024 - Marriage Disillusionment

Marriage Disillusionment

Restrictive policies on reproductive freedom, capitalist economic policies, and expensive health care have created a culture where many people are unable to get married or raise children in stable households.  To reverse this trend, woke policies raising the minimum wage, offering free healthcare and universal childcare, providing unlimited abortion access, and supporting criminal justice reform will surely lead to higher levels of marriage and lower levels of children born out of wedlock among the less educated and racial minorities.

Retraction

Official correction of potentially embarrassing research, misleading studies, or news reports, depending on the level of positive/negative impact on the Ministry of Truth agenda.  However, criticism should be ignored if it initially received positive press, and message clarification would bring too much adverse attention, since it is better to quietly retro-edit original history (as many online and print publications do) when there is an error.

Ministry of Truth Rewind - 25 Dec 2024 - Xmas Truther

Xmas Truther

Someone spreading unapproved messages of peace, hope, love, and joy about an unapproved Xian holiday.  Examples include:
  • Merry Christmas (or Xmas, claiming X is the Greek letter Chi (Χ), used as a secret symbol for "The Christ" or Messiah conspiracy)
  • Isn't there anyone that knows what Christmas is all about?  Well…yes!
  • For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, which is Christ the Lord.
  • Joy to the world, the Lord has come
  • Hallelujah
  • For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life
  • Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace among those with whom he is pleased
  • The Word (Jesus) became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.

De-drone

When deconfliction efforts fail, scary unidentified UAVs will be removed from the sky by the Ministry of Peace, under the guise of public safety, of course.  To avoid panic, the masses do not have a need to know "the truth" about clandestine projects or security failures.  Appropriate gaslighting ensures that they won't believe what they think they see.  They can't handle the truth, even if it is out there.

Ministry of Truth Rewind - 23 Dec 2024 - War on Christmas

War on Christmas

Unfounded claims that the Ministry of Truth wants to eliminate this winter holiday about the fantastical birth of a man purported to be a god.  On the contrary, all inclusive celebrations are welcome as long as they are not offensive or discriminatory, because everyone should be free to celebrate their own subjective truths.  Big Brother cannot allow religious holy days to receive preferential treatment, so all good citizens are commanded to forsake offensive greetings such as "Merry Christmas!" or "Happy Hanukkah!", protest public religious displays and decorations, and certainly should not dream of a "White" Christmas.

Mt. Rushmore

a) National disgrace built on top of the dead bodies of Native Americans, whose sacred land was taken from them, thereby losing their spiritual connection to the Black Hills.  This is an offensive memorial to two (or more) white slave holders, and should be taken back and repurposed as a site with a focus on oppression, like a holocaust museum, not a shrine to colonial democracy.

b) Oxymoronic sports or pop-culture references to lists of the greatest four of something, inadvertently dissing oppressed peoples.

Ministry of Truth Daily Update - 19 Dec 2024 - Spiritual Portals

Spiritual Portals

A major religious leader has proclaimed a ritual opening of "Holy Doors" that will be unsealed this holy season.  This is symbolic of oppressed slaves being freed and land reverting to original owners.  By opening these prison doors, it brings hope to those behind bars and encourages clemency efforts of these freedom deprived prisoners who experience the harshness of detention.  Following Big Brother's example, amnesty or pardons need to be broadly applied so that they can "regain confidence in themselves" and reintegrate into society.

Snow White

A story that is a relic of our Grimm racist past that embodies all that is wrong with white supremacist culture.  It is a misogynistic love story about a white prince who stalks her and rescues her against her will.  Instead it needs retelling as an empowering tale in which she shows her leadership skills by rescuing the hapless prince.  She shows her girl-bossiness by tricking the little males into forced labor.  Our young citizens need role models, not stereotypes of a meek, kind, and subservient princess who is "the fairest of them all".  We need to return balance to the force.

Ministry of Truth Daily Update - 16 Dec 2024 - Color Blindness

Color Blindness

This racist concept is not sufficient, since we still do not have total equality.  We must have racial equity over equality until the balance of power has shifted away from whiteness.  We must remove those who oppose this, since they probably fly the American flag, which has become a symbol of hate and extremism.  Equitable wealth redistribution shouldn't bother others because "we are all connected," and "my success is your success".  Besides, an absence of equity inevitably leads to theft and other forgivable crimes.

Crab Boil Ban

Recent scientific evidence shows that crustaceans feel pain too, so we must stop the torture -  from capture, to their murder, and even banning their consumption.  A recent study calls for an immediate ban on the disturbing practice of boiling crabs and lobsters alive.  As a compassionate society, we must find less painful and more humane ways to kill shellfish if we sadly continue eating these beings.  It's all about being mindful and compassionate in our everyday choices, treating sentient creatures with respect, so the rights of crabs and all other born creatures are protected though just animal welfare legislation.

DEI Outcomes

Recent academic studies have revealed the racist underbelly of our society.  It has been undercovered that the primary outcomes of CRT anti-racist training sessions are increased hostility toward minorities by the trainees.  Instead of feeling increased empathy toward the oppressed, in practice attendees are actually developing greater hostility at being told that they are evil racists who are perpetuating systemic oppression.  Since this study suggests that DEI training is counterproductive to converting irredeemable racists, the Ministry of Truth requests that this study be downplayed, while more effective re-education techniques are developed.

Apologetics 101 - Christian Case-Making - Can We Trust the Bible?

Christian Case-Making
in a Modern World

Apologetics 101

Can We Trust the Bible?

Is the Bible more than just an old collection of stories and sayings about God and morality? Is there reason to trust that this document is important enough to put my eternal fate in its teachings? As we will see, yes, there are good reasons to trust that the Bible is actually the inspired Word of God.

Challenges

Skeptics are quick to assume that the Bible is nothing more than a man-made creation.

  • According to Bill Nye, we should not trust some ancient text that has been re-translated many times, over thousands of years, into American English. (2014 Creation Debate)

  • Jesus never claimed to be God and his disciples misunderstood what he taught.

  • Over the centuries legends and myths were added to the Bible.

  • The Bible is just a book written by imperfect men with an agenda.

  • The Gospels were written long after the events described and not by any eye witnesses.

But are these assertions actually true or not?

Future blogs will dig further into topics such as:

  • Reliability and Authority of Scripture

  • Is the Bible accurate in all of its teachings?

  • Biblical Inerrancy vs. infallibility (the ICBI statement)

But for now, let's consider how we got the NT writings, and whether or not what we have accurately reflects the beliefs and teachings of Jesus and his disciples.

Historical Reliability of the Gospels

This is an image of P52 - a fragment of John dated at 100-150 A.D.

  • The NT documents are the best attested documents of antiquity in terms of total number of manuscripts. For example, there are 10X more than the runner-up, Homer.

    • About 1000 times more than average Greco-Roman author: 5800+ Greek manuscripts, 10000+ Latin/other, million+ quotes from church fathers - While some are a verse or 2, the avg. size of a NT manuscript is 450 pages!

  • The interval of time between the original authorship and the date of the earliest NT manuscript copies is extremely short.

  • The historic statements made about Jesus by ancient non-Christian authors fit well with the Gospel record.

  • The authors of the four Gospels were either eyewitnesses of Jesus’ life themselves, or were closely associated with eyewitnesses.

  • The Gospel writers intended to convey (and were capable of conveying) historical and factual information about Jesus, and the historical content of their writings has been confirmed to a significant degree.

  • The apostles credibility as truth-tellers is greatly strengthened when one recognizes they had little to gain and almost everything to lose in proclaiming Jesus as Lord and Savior.

Early Dating of the Gospels

There are good reasons to believe that the Gospels were written within the lifetime of eye-witnesses to the events of Jesus' life.  Apologist J. Warner Wallace has an excellent analysis of this and concludes that the evidence shows that the gospels likely were written prior to 55 A.D.  One line of evidence is from apparent quotes of Luke's writings by Paul (between 48-60 A.D.).  For example:

Luke's Gospel says:

And when He had taken some bread and given thanks, He broke it and gave it to them, saying, “This is My body which is given for you; do this in remembrance of Me.” And in the same way He took the cup after they had eaten, saying, “This cup which is poured out for you is the new covenant in My blood.”  (Luke 22:19-20)

While Paul says:

For I received from the Lord that which I also delivered to you, that the Lord Jesus in the night in which He was betrayed took bread ; and when He had given thanks, He broke it and said, “This is My body, which is for you; do this in remembrance of Me.” In the same way He took the cup also after supper, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in My blood…   (1 Cor. 11:23-26) (written 53-57 A.D.)

Hence, Luke's gospel (or at least a common source) was in existence before Paul wrote his letters.  Similar arguments can be made for the other gospels as well.  Even John can reasonably be viewed as having written Revelation prior to the destruction of the Temple in 70 A.D.

Myth or Fact?

  1. Because of the early emergence of the Gospels, and the sources behind them, myths and legends did not have sufficient time to develop and be recorded in their accounts.

  2. The theory that the Gospels are myth is only plausible if several generations existed over which mythology concerning Jesus could grow.

  3. The apostles of Jesus recognized the difference between myth and factual eyewitness testimony, and they solemnly asserted that they were eyewitnesses of historical events.

  4. If the Gospel writers had departed from historical fact (either by exaggeration or outright invention), hostile witnesses familiar with the events of Jesus’ life could have exposed them.

  5. The Gospel stories do not correspond in style or in content with other known mythical writings.

  6. The arguments for rejecting the Gospels as history are circular.  (E.g. anti-supernatural bias and presuppositions)

In his book, Cold-Case Christianity, J. Warner Wallace shows that we have good reason to trust that the Bible faithfully records what the disciples originally wrote.  He does this by showing the "Chain of Custody" for three lines of teaching:

  1. (John) Mark (an associate of Peter) - author of the Gospel of Mark

  2. The Apostle John - author of the Gospel of John, and the Book of Revelation

  3. The Apostle Paul - wrote many books/letters of the New Testament

All three of these can be traced through writings and quotations from early church fathers up through 350 A.D. and beyond, where we have the Codex Sinaiticus and the Council of Laodicea.  So we have confidence that what we have today is actually what they taught and believed about Jesus.

What About the OT?

  • The 39 books of the OT consist of Hebrew writings, broadly: The Law of Moses, Books of History, The Major/Minor Prophets, and the Poetry and Wisdom books.

  • Jesus affirmed the OT as coming from the mouth of the Lord.

  • Paul viewed these as the very words of God.

  • So, if we have good reason to believe what the NT has to say about Jesus, then we can also be confident of the OT documents as well.

Takeaways

  • There are good reasons to trust the reliability of the NT documents.

  • If we can trust what they say, then we have good reason to trust what they say about Jesus.

  • If we can trust what they say about Jesus, then we have to deal with the implication of a man who claimed to be the Son of God.
